ECA Fashion Show!…

ECA catwalk show is the peak of the academic year! Being in 3rd year, this meant the class had two pieces of costume work in the show! So our costumes from the ‘Not the End of the World’ project were in the show as well as our ‘Orlando’ costume make. Not only were my costumes in the show, I also modelled for friend and fellow costume student Ruth Rae. It was so much fun being part of it although a little scary to think my 4th year work will be in the show next year (graduation year) but while being overwhelming it also remained very exciting! Rehearsals:

Dress rehearsal/live show:

Special thanks to photos from Andrew Perry, Ruth Rae, Bejoy Sanjeev and Paul Ramsay and also my beautiful models, Joni Chiang (Not the End of the World) and Katie Rutherford (Orlando) who put up with a stressful week of rehearsals and having to deal with a stressed out me too! You did a fantastic job, thank you! 🙂

Orlando…

This was the 2nd project of the year, here we were asked to explore five of the characters, designing and making fabric choices according to the theme we went down for the project. The second half of the project involved the class picking a time period out of a hat and designing and making a costume for the main character Orlando. Due to the change of gender of the character in the play we could chose whether to make a male or female costume. I got the 1930’s so designed and made a 1930’s evening dress.

Not the End of the World, Puppetry…

As part of the Not the end of the World project we were asked to make a puppet, which will potentially be in this years fashion show! I decided to design a magpie puppet due to the connotations of the creatures as well as the colours incorporated in their feathers. Additionally the contradictory connotations link the characters I designed for together.

With my climate change theme I made my puppet out of recycled fabrics, using a bottle as the main body of the magpie, I then used cereal box card for the wings and doweling for the mechanism of the puppets movement. Lastly used layered bubble wrap, papers, plastic bags, crisp packets with the addition of black acrylic paint and blue glitter to decorate the puppet.
